The Old Railway Pub

This is a family run country pub located next to the Downs Link, and so is a favourite stopping off place for walkers and cyclists. It was formally called the Station Hotel, then the Cat and Canary. It serves a great selection of wines, draught beers, gin and other spirits and soft drinks, as well as basket snacks, burgers and rolls. They also host quizzes, bingo, workshops and parties. There is seating in the 2 bars as well as a large area outside with 2 shelters which are lit up in the evening (one with a fire in the winter). There is a garden area with a children’s play area which is open in the summer months. Dogs are welcome on a lead.

The pub is open 7 days a week: Monday to Thursday 3 – 11pm and Friday & Saturday 12md – 11pm and Sundays 12 – 10.30.

Parking – There is a public car park next to the pub at the end of the Downs Link which takes 12 vehicles. If this is full customers park in adjacent roads. There is no disabled parking.

Entrance – The front entrance has 3 steps from the pavement (6”, 6” and 3”) with a 30” (76cm) wide door.

There is a second entrance to the side of the pub with a 5” step into the pub. A steel ramp which is 70cm wide can be used to access the pub and toilets – just ask a staff member to put it in place.

The pub has a large outdoor seating area and garden which is flat. There are 2 large shelters, one with a heater, as well as other bench seating. Other outdoor chairs are available. The garden and play area are only open in the summer months.

Inside the Pub – They regularly have disabled customers, some of whom are in wheelchairs or small mobility scooters. Staff are happy to move chairs as needed. It is helpful when coming to the pub to say if in a wheelchair or mobility scooter so an areas can be made ready. The pub is well lit with ceiling and wall lights. As with most pubs it can be noisy with background music and talking, but a quieter room or outside shelters are other options.

Toilets - Both the gents and ladies toilets are quite spacious and are clean and nicely decorated. The door widths to the toilets are approx 70cm (28”) wide.
