South Downs Butchery

This is a Henfield-based award-winning butchers at the back of the High Street in Coopers Way, opposite the pet shop. They also have a second base in Swains Farm Shop on Henfield Common. They describe themselves as a new generation of butchers with a wide range of different sausages, burgers, chicken and other meat dishes, as well as dry aged beef and sauces. They aim to be sustainable by sourcing their meat from within a 30 mile radius, and also using packaging which can all be recycled as well as placed in a freezer.

Opening hours for the village shop is Tues – Fri 8.30 – 5.30. At the Swains shop Mon – Sat 8.30 – 5.30 and Sunday 10 – 4.

Parking – Coopers Way council car park is situated across the road from the shop and has 6 disabled parking spaces with dropped kerbs/slopes. Mobility scooters are often parked at the side of the shop, in Brick Lane, part of which is sheltered, or at the end of Caudle street.

Entrance in Coopers Way and inside the shop – There is a door 85cm (33.5”) wide into the shop with a 1” lip. This is a small shop 290 x 230cm (9.5’ x 7.5’) for customers to move around in. The meat is displayed in 2 upright fridges and a long cabinet.

Toilet - There are public toilets in the High St, with separate female and male toilets and an accessible disabled unisex toilet accessed using a radar key.

Swains Farm Shop

A lovely family-run farm shop on the edge of Henfield Common, which is passionate about supporting local farmers. South Downs butchery has an area within the shop and offers a wide range of fresh meat. There is a large car park for 42 vehicles with 2 disabled parking bays. There is a gentle slope from the car park, and then it is flat to the entrance.

Inside the Shop – The whole shop is flat and easy to navigate around.

Toilet - There is a separate male and female toilet. The female toilet / disabled toilet has an adjustable handrail allowing for a side transfer, and another handrail. This can be used by male customers as well. Dimensions 180 x 148cm with door access of 86cm.
