Henfield St Peters C of E Primary School
This is the main primary school for the area catering for 4 – 11 year olds. It has 14 classes – 2 for each age group. This is a lovely bright and cheerful school giving the appearance of space. Their key values are Resilience, Resourcefulness, Respectful and always aiming high. There is a wide range of extracurricular clubs and activities.
Parking – There is 1 disabled parking and 1 visitor car parking space in the school car park nearest the school entrance. The nearest car parks are at the Leisure Centre with 112 spaces including 5 disabled spaces.
Entrance and Reception Area – To the left of the door is a ‘push button’ post to open the door. There are double entrance doors each 80cm wide. Only one opens initially, but staff can open the second door if needed. In the narrow lobby (123cm wide) there is a hatchway to speak to the office staff and obtain a visitor’s pass. Then passing through a second set of double doors, which are each 75cm wide.
Inside Communal Areas - Flooring in the entrance area is carpeted and the main hall is parquet flooring. Most of the school is flat, but where there are steps there is an alternative route for those who need it. The exception to this is the upstairs classrooms, but if a child or staff member is unable to get up the stairs, then classrooms are swapped around. SEN Coordinators assess children for their needs and best solutions are found for each child. All staff have annual WSCC equality and diversity training.
Toilets – There is 1 unisex disabled toilet with 1 adjustable and 3 fixed handrails, and with an assistance alarm which is regularly checked. The width of the door is 78cm door. As well as the children’s toilets, there are 5 other staff toilets which adult visitors could use.
Outside areas - There are separate playgrounds for Reception and Year 1 children. There are steps in some areas, but also alternative slopes which can be used. There are multiple items of play equipment. There is a large field with a running track round the outside.
